Modern and Minimalist Bedroom Interior Design Ideas

Today theme is modern and minimalist bedrooms. This look usually has a mixture of simple furniture and those out-of-this-world artistically designed pieces. In modern bedrooms, the bed is usually the one that stands out. The modern style usually makes of platform beds. This kind of bed is the newest rage in bedroom design. The minimalist approach to bedroom interior design is all about clearing the clutter and reducing the elements of bedroom down to the bare essentials whilst at the same time retaining an aesthetically pleasing appearance in a room.

Minimalist Bedroom Design

I saw this story ages ago in the now defunct Domino magazine. It’s the editor, Deborah Needleman’s apartment. I really like the scale of this space. Those high ceilings let her play with giant forms like the paper light over the dining table. The living room (below) also drew me in…I like that pieces don’t match perfectly. It’s not too done.

Colourful Bedroom Design

Spotted this brave shot of colour in New York magazine. It’s Liz Kinnmark’s bedroom. She is one half of Design Glut.

Baby Bedding Safety Issues

The uppermost concern - taking priority over everything else in baby products - is safety. When purchasing a baby bedding set, take heed of the following expert advice regarding baby linen safety issues:

•- Be sure baby sheets are tight fitting, hugging the crib corners snugly (to prevent crib sheets from bunching up or wrenching loose, which can cause babies to suffocate/choke)

•- Select only the highest quality fabrics which are soft to the touch

•- Check that the bedding and crib accessories are machine washable

•- Consider investing in a convertible crib, which allows you to transform the crib into a toddler's bed when the time is right

Baby bedding sets

If you are preparing a baby nursery for a new arrival or designing a children's bedroom, bedding sets (baby bedding sets, crib bedding sets, and children's bedding sets) are a wonderful decorating tool. Since bed linen ensembles come in a wide array of styles, fabrics, textures, colors, patterns, and designs, they can instantly transform the look of the entire room. Whether you use bedding sets as the bedroom's focal point, as a decorative accessory to an existing bedroom or baby nursery theme, or simply to add brightness and cheer to the room, bedding sets are a fun, affordable, and versatile way to decorate a bedroom or baby nursery.
Although there are variations in the contents, a typical baby bedding set includes a sheet, comforter/quilt, crib skirt, and bumper pad; some baby linen sets add accessories such decorative baby pillows, crib mobiles, dust ruffles, nursery wall hangings, and more. Today, entire lines of baby and children bed linens have been created, including specialty bedding sets offered by the top designers in the business. With a strong emphasis on high quality and safe bed linen products for babies, toddlers, and children, the bedding industry is a fast-growing, competitive market - which means you can expect superior selection and multiple choices when it comes to choosing a bed set for your baby nursery or children's bedroom.
Bedding Set Themes

Since the bedroom or nursery is where children and infants spend the bulk of their time in their early years, you want to provide a room that allows them to feel comfortable, serene, safe, and cozy - in and out of bed. In addition to bed linen for cribs, you can find bed linen for children's bunk beds, canopy beds, captain beds, and platform beds. Inviting bedding which echoes a favorite children's theme or which features appealing colors, patterns, or print designs make bedtime a pleasurable and exciting experience for children and babies - doing much to improve the quality of life of their parents!

Some of the most popular bedding set themes for children (boys and girls) and infants include:

Little Princess, Little Prince, Outer Space, Castle, The Sea, Garden, Fairies, Sports, Superheroes, The Sun, Moon & Stars, Fire Trucks, the Color Blue, the Color Pink, Ladybugs, Butterflies, Play Ball, Nautical, Pastels, Rainbows, Disney Characters, Animals, Safari, Frogs, Bumble Bees, and many more.

You can also find unisex bedding sets which are appropriate for decorating a boy and a girl's bedroom, such as polka-dot bedding sets, solid colors, checkered prints, geometric patterns, all in styles ranging from funky to classic and from trendy to traditional.

Give your bedroom an instant makeover with bedding sets

Give your bedroom an instant makeover with bedding sets - including bed sheets, comforters, duvets, duvet covers, pillows, bed skirts, bedspreads, and more. Whether you are looking for a classic, elegant, youthful, bold, carefree, cozy, tropical, natural, chic, contemporary, romantic, au courant chic, or luxurious look, a bedding ensemble will do the trick. Using a stylish combination of bedding fabrics, textures, colors, and patterns, you can literally create the bedroom of your dreams.
Bed-in-a-Bag Sets

One of the most convenient ways to decorate with bedding sets is to buy a bed-in-a-bag set - that is, a completely matched bedroom ensemble that comes in a single bag. Bed-in-a-bag sets typically include sheets, pillowcases (or even pillows), comforter, bed skirt, and pillow shams. Beside the convenience, bed-in-a-bag sets are less expensive than purchasing all of the items separately, and you are guaranteed that all the bedding accessories have been expertly selected to match and complement each other, giving your bed and bedroom a tailored quality which can't be beat. You can even purchase hand-stitched designer bed-in-a-bag sets and save money on more costly bedroom renovations. Bedding sets are available in all sizes, including twin, full, full-queen, king, California king, cal king, and daybed, allowing you to update the look of any sized bed and to enliven the look of any bedroom.
Designer Bedroom Sets

Featuring household names in interior decorating such as Kathy Ireland, Hallmart, Croscill, Thomasville, Peacock Alley, Kimlor, Akasha, and more, designers are offering beautiful bedding sets comprised of fashion-forward fabrics in colors and themes to suit all types of bedroom styles. These bedroom luxury products will enhance even the most posh master bedrooms and can transform any room into an expression of class, fashion, and artistry. Look for intricate, elegant details, delicate softness, smooth fabrics, rich quality, expert finishes, and the highest industry standards in materials and craftsmanship.
High Thread Count Sheets

When you buy a bedroom set, look for high quality sheets that will withstand the test of time. A key indication of bed sheet quality is a high thread count, which manifests in sheets that are soft, smooth, and silky to the touch.
Microsuede

If you're looking for the best for your bedroom, invest in microsuede, a faux suede fabric with the softness of suede, minus the worry of stains. Made from 100% polyester that has undergone a refining process, not only is microsuede the softest contemporary bedding fabric, but it is also a fine canvas for prints and designs. When you buy bedding sets made from microsuede, you know you are purchasing high-end products (often found in hotel bedding) which will last you a lifetime. Look also for microsuede comforter sets and microsuede comforter fillers which (as opposed to down comforters) allow for machine washing.
Types of Bedroom Sets

To service the great diversity in modern-day bedroom styles and themes, the bedding industry has responded in kind by creating a wide array of modern bedroom sets, some of which include:

•- Tropical Bedding Sets (featuring rainforest, paradise-island, and beachfront/resort themes and colors)

•- Floral Bedding Sets

•- Contemporary Bedding Sets

•- Elegant Chic Bedroom Sets

•- Infant Bedding Sets (Crib Baby Sets)

•- Girl Toddler Bedding Sets

•- Boy Toddler Bedding Sets

•- Children's Bedding Sets

•- Teen Bedding Sets

•- Shabby Chic Bedding Sets

•- Plaid Bedding Sets

•- Animal Print Bedding Sets

•- College Dorm Bedding Sets

•- Master Bedroom Bedding Sets

•- Luxury Bedding Sets
Bed Skirts

In case you're not sure what a bed skirt is, bed skirts are a fun, fancy, and clever way to cover your bed legs and add style to the bottom part of your bed. Available separately or as part of a bedding set, bed skirts will beautify your bedroom without blowing your budget.
Duvet Covers

Duvets are classic comforters filled with polyfill material known as "down." Regaled for their warmth, comfort, and softness, the 'down' side of down-filled comforters is that they must be dry cleaned or hand washed. This is where duvet covers enter the picture. A duvet cover is a large piece of fabric which functions much like a big pillowcase. Simply stuff your favorite duvet into the pouch of a duvet cover; when the cover gets dirty, remove the comforter and machine wash the cover.

Now add some decorative accent pillows or throw pillows to your new bedding ensemble and you can fall asleep resting easy in bedroom heaven...

Clean Your Bedding

We all value a good night's sleep, but it's hard to get one if our bedding is dirty. It stands to reason, then, that bedding should be cleaned on a regular basis. The key to successful cleaning is to do it before the soil is heavy and to know the fabrics involved in order to use the right cleaning procedures. Keep a file of manufacturers' care labels, and follow their directions when cleaning is necessary.

In this article, we'll provide all sorts of handy guidelines for cleaning bedding. We'll tackle bedspreads, blankets, comforters and quilts, mattresses and box springs, and pillows. It should add up to a better night's sleep.
Bedspreads and Blankets

Bedspreads are made from different kinds of fabric, many of which are washable. Bedspreads should be washed before they become heavily soiled. Treat spots and stains with a spray prewash product. Before you clean your bedspread, dip a corner in the detergent solution to check for colorfastness. If the color bleeds, have your bedspread dry-cleaned.

Use a large commercial washing machine for oversize bedspreads. An overcrowded washer won't clean very well, and the wet weight can be hard on your washer.

Dry the bedspreads on a clothesline or in a large, commercial dryer.

Although blankets are made of many different fibers and blends, most of them are washable by hand or machine. Even some wool blankets can be machine-washed.

If you really want to keep your blankets in top shape, follow these additional guidelines:

* Vacuum blankets occasionally to remove dust and lint.
* Air blankets on a clothesline periodically to freshen them.
* Before you wash a blanket, mend or replace bindings and treat spots and stains.
* Electric blankets should always be washed, not dry-cleaned, since cleaning solvents can damage the wiring. Mothproofing is harmful to the wiring, too.

Decorator Secrets Professional Bedding Tips

Haven’t you ever wondered how the heck those beds in the interior design magazines look so perfect? Try as you might, you can’t seem to recreate the look no matter how much you plump those pillows. Don’t feel inadequate, there are tricks of the trade they’re using that someone forgot to tell you.
Pillows
Those pillows in the picture look like they’re just waiting to cradle your head as you drift off into dreamland. You can plump all you want, but you’ll need to add extra fill to the pillows like the pros do to get pillows looking that sumptuous. If you want the look, purchase a bag of fiber fill from a sewing store. It will eventually get crushed down and you’ll need to add more to keep up with the look.
Linens

Those sheets in the photos look so crisp and clean, can’t you just feel the coolness as you slide into bed? How come your sheets never look like that? Because you don’t iron them, that’s why! The linens used in those photo shoots are ironed on huge 6 foot tables covered with foam and fabric to make them look perfect. While higher thread count sheets are soft and luxurious, they may need to be ironed or they can look permanently wrinkled, unfortunately, it’s not as easy on that flimsy ironing board, is it?
Mattresses

The mattresses in the interior décor magazines look oh-so comfy that they make you sleepy just admiring them. What kind of mattresses, you wonder….just regular mattresses fluffed up by using a down comforter wrapped around them to hide hard edges and seams.

You can easily get this look with a featherbed mattress cover – just go a size up if you can to wrap it around the sides of the bed, it will also help keep it from shifting around.
Duvets and Comforters

The duvets and comforters look so inviting in the photos, and it’s an easy look to get at home. Duvets are usually folded down and placed at the end of the bed and comforters usually folded down not quite as far. White sheets are used to set off their colors better, and they don’t show through at all to ‘muddy’ up the color.

While some tricks of the trade are better left on the photos of the design magazines, there are some that will slip right into your bedroom to make your bed look like it belongs in House Beautiful.

It doesn't pay to skimp on bedding

It doesn't pay to skimp on bedding, but at the same time, it always pays to shop smartly. Here are some tips for finding high-quality bedding and not spending more than you have to:

1. Cotton sheets are described by thread count, which literally means the number of threads in the cloth. Most sheets are in the 200 range, while expensive sheets can go from 250 to more than 300. The higher the thread count, the softer and more durable they are. Hold up a sheet to the light to determine its quality. Light will not shine through a high-thread-count sheet. Also, high-thread-count sheets won't fuzz or pill. Another great way to test this is to scratch the sheet with your fingernail to see if any pill comes off. If so, it's a lesser-quality sheet.

2. The finest-quality wool blankets available are of merino wool. They are also the warmest. Synthetic blankets, however, are non-allergenic, less expensive and easier to wash.

3. Fill power, or "loft," is a measurement of the quality of down products. Down comforters with great loft have fluffy clusters of down that have the power to fill the comforter with fewer ounces than inferior types of down. Down comforters with high fill power listed on the package are lighter and warmer than down comforters with less fill power listed on the label (or not listed at all). Remember, it's not the ounces that are important, it's the fill power of the down.

4. Rather than buying an expensive duvet cover for a comforter, buy a couple of flat sheets in the size and color you need and sew them together on three sides. Sew grommets into the fourth side and close with a decorative ribbon.

5. You can buy a full flat sheet to use instead of a queen flat sheet for a queen-size bed. Not only is a full sheet less expensive, but there's much less material hanging over the edge when you make the bed.

6. When buying flannel sheets, make sure the label says "preshrunk." Otherwise, the flannel will probably shrink, causing your fitted sheet to no longer fit.

7. For the summer months, buy easy-care cotton or thermal blankets. These will allow air to flow through them.

8. If you want to give your mattress a pillow-top look and feel, buy either a featherbed or a polyester fiber bed. They're soft and luxurious and give your bed that "lofty" look. They're also less expensive than a new mattress.

9. When buying a mattress with a pillow top, it's important to buy fitted sheets deep enough to fit over the extra thickness of the mattress. Many people think that buying a larger size will do the trick, but they're just longer and wider and end up not fitting. Deep fitted sheets run anywhere from 13 inches to 22 inches depending on how thick your new mattress is. If you own some wonderful sheets that you want to continue using, just buy "suspenders" for the fitted sheet, which will keep it from popping off.

10. To fill a decorative sham, buy an inexpensive queen-size pillow. It fills the sham completely-even in the corners-and will give your bed that beautiful full look.
